PRESS RELEASE

Bully Pulpit Games to Publish The Warren Role-Playing Game

Publisher Announces a New Tabletop RPG About Rabbits by Marshall Miller

Chapel Hill, North Carolina (September 2, 2014) – Bully Pulpit Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of their newest role-playing game, The Warren, by Marshall Miller. In the game players take on the roles of intelligent rabbits trying to make the best of a world filled with hazards, predators and, worst of all, other rabbits.

Publishing The Warren marks a departure for Bully Pulpit Games because it will be the company’s first game from an outside designer. Steve Segedy, one of the founding partners of Bully Pulpit Games, said “We’re really excited to be working with Marshall. He has a keen sense of design and has been very helpful on many of our previous projects. He and The Warren are a great fit for Bully Pulpit.”

Jason Morningstar, the company’s lead designer, has been a fan of Marshall’s game for some time. “When I first playtested The Warren I knew I wanted to support Marshall’s efforts to perfect the game and get it out in the world. It turns out the best way to do that was to bring our experience as a publisher to the table.”

“Steve and I both love this game, and have run it at home and at conventions for more than a year. It started out solid and has only gotten better,” said Morningstar. ”One thing I love is the wide range of tones The Warren can support – from gentle animal stories suitable for children to some of the most hardcore ‘Powered by the Apocalypse’ action I have ever experienced. It’s surprisingly broad and deep.”

Miller said “I’m thrilled to be working with the folks at Bully Pulpit Games to publish The Warren. You might not know this but Jason’s a rabbit guy from way back, starting with Bunnies & Burrows. He and Steve have been hacking various games to run rabbit stories for years, making them ideal partners in publishing The Warren.”

Miller went on to say, “One thing I love about Bully Pulpit Games is their versatility, capturing the gravity of history with sincerity and compassion in games like Grey Ranks and Night Witches but also displaying keen wit and playful irreverence in games like Shab-al-Hiri Roach and Fiasco.”

“The thing about rabbits is that they live everywhere humans live. Where we go, rabbits go – to the New World, to Australia, to over 800 islands, to space. Rabbit stories are our stories,” Miller added.

The creative team for the project includes illustrator Rachel Kahn, who is known for her excellent work in the Hillfolk RPG, the Worlds Without Master magazine, and in her own By Crom! comic.

“We’re delighted to be working with Rachel for this project,” said Segedy. “She comes highly recommended by people we trust and we really love her animal illustrations. We’re looking forward to working with her to create a unified artistic style for the book that encompasses both the naturalistic and mythic aspects of The Warren.”

Like Bully Pulpit Games’ current project Night Witches, The Warren uses a heavily-modified version of the game mechanics from Vincent Baker’s Apocalypse World.

Miller said, “Vincent Baker’s excellent Apocalypse World gave me a framework for understanding Richard Adams’ post-apocalyptic masterpiece, Watership Down.”

According to to Miller, “In The Warren, animals are the people and humans are the apocalypse.”

The Warren is scheduled to be released and available in stores in spring of 2015.
