		<description>David Bischoff wrote a couple of science fantasies back in 1979/81 about a world in which mechanical fantasy creatures ruled the night: Nightworld, which I've read, and The Vampires of Nightworld, which I've not.

Your idea clicks better for me evocatively and thematically than Bischoff's fantasies. It has an M. John Harrison quality to it that I like.
