I discovered the 1939 Warsaw telephone directory some time ago, which is an insanely useful resource for getting a feel for life in that time and place. Thank you, LOC! Here are some of my favorite ads from the back, which give you an idea of the vibrant, modern life of the city. In November 1945, 80% of Warsaw was literally rubble. One million residents were gone - displaced or dead. For a sense of scale, that would be like Dallas, Texas being systematically demolished and abandoned.

Check it out - go to the gallery (Galeria). The second link is good - they even overturned a tram car and set stuff on fire.

I put up a site at Spreadshirt and we ordered some T-shirts to sport at Gen Con. They did an excellent job and it was very fast. If you want to buy one (there’s no markup), note that several of the designs allow you to customize the words and lettering.

I finished a Grey Ranks alpha test tonight and it worked as expected, mechanically - the dice escalated relentlessly and the characters had a hard time keeping up. The first death came during the mission in scene seven. Two more characters died in scene nine (the very end of the game), and the really neat thing about that was that there was an awful, cold equation - there’s a very limited amount of currency to boost die rolls, and by allowing one character to spend it all, they ensured that someone survived. The math is still probably off, but it’ll take a full playtest to find out. So far so good.

I found a great Grey Ranks resource, Adam Borkiewicz’s book Powstanie Warszawskie. I can’t read a word but the maps are terrific. Here’s one for 21 August, and here’s a detail of the 7 August map, as attack group Dirlewanger pushes toward Mirow Hall.
