Fiasco for Fiction Writing

Posted by Steve on October 28th, 2010 — in News

Many people have noted that Fiasco is a great game for writers, and we’ve often said that the setup would work well as a story-starter for other role-playing games. Nathan Russell of Here Be Gamers (among other things) has really put Fiasco to the test by creating his own playset and using it to prep for NaNoWriMo:

The best thing about this process was that it gave me plenty of time to think about the world that my characters were going to live in, the places and things that were important to them. It was essentially world building. Now, I have 150+ unique things to go back to when I am stuck for inspiration during NaNoWriMo.

Good luck with the NaNoWriMo, Nathan- we can’t wait to see how your story turns out. Be sure to publish the playset too, while you’re at it!

October Playset of the Month – Dallas 1963

Posted by Steve on October 1st, 2010 — in News

For October’s Playset of the Month we are proud to present Dallas 1963!

The President is coming, although he really shouldn’t.

The city is on edge, and all the players are busy playing – John Birch patriots and pro-Castro lunatics, Teamsters, mobsters and assorted other entrepreneurs in the burgeoning fields of sex, death, and race war. A lot of very serious people are doing a lot of very serious things. A smart guy can really get ahead in times like these, looking for the angles, making connections.

And you know what? Guys like that have more important things to do than worry about the President speaking at a Dallas Trade Mart luncheon.

Written by Chris Bennett, Dallas 1963 evokes films like JFK and Executive Action, and was heavily influenced by James Ellroy’s novel The Cold Six Thousand.
